Shay Mitchell brings jellyfish haircut to 2024

With her gorgeous long hair and beach-inspired onda cocktail line, Shay Mitchell may actually be a mermaid, or at least a close relative. This year, she has turned the relationship rumor toward another sea creature: the humble jellyfish, aka, the namesake of her latest hairstyle.

In case you missed it, the jellyfish cut first took social media by storm last winter. As seen on Nicole Kidman and Lily Collins, this trendy style eschews gradual blending of layers, opting instead for a bold juxtaposition of short and long strands in two stages. It's like a mullet, but somewhat bolder.

Mitchell first showed off the look on Monday, January 15, posing for a series of photos and videos posted by her hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos. To get this look, the celebrity hairstylist used a selection of Moroccanoil products.

"New jellyfish hair cut for my girl," he wrote via Instagram, tagging the brand and the rest of Mitchell's styling team, including makeup artist Ash K Holm and stylist Shalev Lavàn.

The comments section was soon filled with fire emojis, but fans and fellow celebrities decided to share more specific opinions about the style.

"I'm obsessed, I'm going to have to clone this cut on my head," wrote one commenter, while Julianne Hough called the cut "so sick."

Physical chops have more staying power than wigs, but there is no telling how long Mitchell's jellyfish style will last. Last year we saw her in pixie, bob, bangs, and blonde and copper locks.

But for now, it's all jellyfish. I can't wait to see how she styles her hair to look like the ocean.
