Prince William to postpone royal duties, including two planned trips abroad, to support Princess Kate's health issues.

In addition to the Princess of Wales and the King of England temporarily suspending their royal duties to undergo medical procedures, People reported that the Prince of Wales will also temporarily suspend work to care for his wife.

Kensington Palace announced today that Kate "was admitted to hospital yesterday [Tuesday, January 16] for scheduled abdominal surgery." The Palace added that "the surgery was a success and after being in the hospital for 10 to 14 days, she is expected to return home to continue her recovery." Kate is not expected to return to work until April at the earliest. The statement apologized for forcing Kate to postpone her upcoming engagement, adding, "She looks forward to reviving (the engagement) as soon as possible."

Meanwhile, the announcement was followed by news that Prince Charles would undergo inpatient treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King, like thousands of other men each year, is being treated for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for corrective surgery." Prince Charles will then go into recuperation, the statement added, and "his public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation."

Whew.

Nevertheless, "People" reported that "William is expected to postpone some engagements to be by Kate's side and support the family." (William and Kate are the parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.) The magazine continued that "two upcoming international trips have been postponed," including a trip to Italy that William and Kate were reportedly planning this spring.

Although we have not seen Kate publicly since Christmas Day, William returned to work in the New Year. George, Charlotte, and Louis returned to school in Lamoureux the week of January 8, and William accepted the royal engagement on January 11, six days before news of his wife's health broke.

It is currently unknown when William will return to his royal duties.
