Prince William, who gave his wife "terrible" gifts in the past, makes amends by giving Princess Kate £121,000 in jewelry.

Tomorrow is the 42nd birthday of the Crown Princess of England. In addition to the wonderful gift from her father-in-law, King Charles, one wonders what Prince William will give his wife. (After all, let's be honest. Kate probably won't record this as the easiest year of her life.)

Now, Prince William himself admits that he is not always a gift-giving pro. But sometimes he pulls it off, as with his third wedding anniversary in 2014 and the disastrous gift cleanup that followed the £121,000 of jewelry he gave to Kate, The Sun reports.

When Kate came to cheer on the London Olympics in 2012, she wore a dazzling Olympic Cartier set estimated to be worth more than six figures. The set, believed (though never confirmed) to have been given to Kate as a 30th birthday present earlier that year, features an 18-carat chain with pave diamonds and three intertwining circles of pink, yellow, and white gold. This gift, allegedly given by William, is beautiful and his wife would have been delighted to receive it.

Another gift Kate loved, a '£4,850 Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch, is believed to have been given to Kate on their third wedding anniversary, The Sun reports. A few years later, in 2022, Kate wore £100 drop earrings, a Christmas gift from William. The gold-plated earrings featured an intricate coin-like design and were from Cezanne, a brand known to be a favorite of Kate's.

But there was at least one gift that William himself called "awful" and that Kate "will never let me forget": during a podcast appearance with Peter Crouch on BBC Radio Five Live, William sheepishly He admitted that he had.

"I once gave my wife a pair of binoculars," he said. 'She never let me forget that. It was early in our courtship. It didn't work out. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her binoculars. It seemed like a good idea at the time."

While we wonder what William will give Kate tomorrow, we should remember that the royal family is well known for giving each other gag gifts at Christmas, not lavish ones. For example, one of the most memorable gag gifts was Prince Harry's bath hat to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, that read "Ain't life a b-tch."
