Who is Araya Benavides, one of Peter Webber's "Bachelor" contestants?

Spoilers ahead for "The Bachelor. Peter Weber's Bachelor season has begun! Thanks to early spoilers about group dates and one-on-ones, we already know some of the contestants who could win Peter's heart. We also know which contestants have already made a name for themselves with their pre-show activities. She is a former pageant winner, a model, and a strong competitor for the final rose ... But she also had a seemingly serious boyfriend just before she became involved in the show ...

In episode 3, Benavides was eliminated after a drama-filled episode. But then Weber began to have doubts, and a preview for the next week's episode indicated Benavides' return. What do we know about this pageant queen?

Benavides is 23 years old and a native of San Antonio. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio. She was a model and worked as an orthodontic assistant to help pay for school.

According to her pageant bio (opens in new tab), "Her Read the Way program, which contributes to local schools and literacy programs, is one of her ways to make a constructive impact in the lives of children." Also interesting is this: "While in high school, Araya was diagnosed with dyslexia and told it was a disability ... She turned that responsibility into a driving force to 'work smarter and harder' and helped her advance to AP and dual credit courses."

Benavides won Miss Texas USA 2019. She also competed for Miss USA but did not place. Recall, pageant winners who recently won but cannot present a crown to a new winner (Caelynn Miller-Keyes ran into this problem when she was filming "The Bachelor" in 2018) are in for a firestorm. If Araya does well (spoiler alert: she's still on the show), this could be a problem for her.

And the rumor, of course, is that she broke up with him to get on the show (which has happened before, but sometimes that can cause problems for contestants). Reality Steve (opens in new tab) has a screenshot of her account.

Mader has several posts up that talk about their previous relationship, like this one from March:

and this one in which he actually participates in Miss USA. We don't have many details at this point, but there is no doubt that Bachelor fans are exploring. Ironically, Peter was accused of doing something similar (open in new tab).

Episode 3 was all about Benavides. Weber went back and forth between the other contestants and Benavides, trying to figure out what was what. Benavides insisted that he was serious and just wanted to get to know Weber, but the other contestants disagreed. In the end, Weber gave the final rose to Canadian fashion blogger Mykenna instead of Benavides.

But then! Weber reconsidered sending Benavides home and began asking the producers if he had made the wrong choice. And a preview of next week's episode depicts Benavidez's return, and as you can imagine, the other contestants are really pissed off.

So, enjoy!
